Granite is an igneous rock and is formed from magma, estimated at 1300 to 1400 degrees; created by volcanic activity. Granitic magma has many potential origins but it must intrude other rocks. Most granite intrusions are emplaced at depth within the crust, usually greater than 1.5 kilometers and up to 50 km depth within thick continental crust.

It is composed mostly of feldspar, quartz and biotite. Granite comes from places all over the world such as, Italy, India, Africa, Finland, China, South America, and North America. Granite is one of the hardest stones available, having a rating of 7 on the Mohr's Hardness Scale; placing it just below diamonds.

Granite Places

Granite is a recognized premium stone within the residential and commercial industry. It is highly sought after due to its elegant appearance combined with various minerals, colours, striations, deposits and veins. The polishing process creates the diamond and glass like finish which highlights the brilliance and depth of colour in every panel produced. Granite is nearly impossible to scratch, easy to clean, stain and heat resistant, adding the most value to your home compared to any other countertop.

There are more than 3000 granite colours being mined around the world today. Countertop prices range from $35 to $150 per square foot depending on where the blocks are minded in the globe, combined with yield available in the earth, number of inclusions, density of the stone, and based on country that is cutting and polishing the slabs.
